Nina Gurling

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

Easing physical aches & pains.

Calming, regulating, restoring the nervous system.

I combine knowledge and experience gained from 15 years as a Chiropractor, with the gentle yet profound technique of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST). Enabling me to work with the underlying patterns of contraction and tension held in the whole body; helping them to release in a gentle way, according to the order and timing of the body.

I can also combine multiple techniques if and when appropriate, such as; spinal/joint manipulation or mobilisation, home exercises, etc.

I particularly enjoy sharing knowledge with clients so that they better understand how their body works, and what's going on.

My Background

^

Following treatment of my own back pain by a Chiropractor in New Zealand in 2001, I became inspired to return to the UK to study. I graduated from the University of Glamorgan (now University of South Wales) in 2008 with a BSc (Hon.) Chiropractic, aged 30, and then set up my own clinic in 2009 in Clay Cross, Derbyshire.  Over the years I grew the Clay Cross business into a very successful mulitdisciplinary clinic, with a great local reputation including referals from GP's.  Changes in my personal life led me to reassess what I wanted to do next, and so I sold that clinic in 2022.  Then in 2023 I decided to 'downsize' and set up a simple therapy space in Bolsover, closer to my home in Langwith, enabling me to slow down and spend more time on the things I love doing.

I knew before comencing the degree that Chiropractic would just be the starting point, the foundation, and that being a Chiropractor was not necessarily my end goal.  Always asking the question "why!?" regarding the underlying cause of our ailments is what fuelled my ongoing fascination with the body & search for answers.  Over the last 15 years I have tried out all sorts of different techniques and approaches myself, and have attended a lot of training courses, seminars and conferences. I love exploring and learning. I now feel that through all the trial and error I’ve found a key approach that is in alignment with a lot of my core principles.

Free Chat (20 mins)

^

This is a chance for a no-obligation chat about the problem you want help with, how I work, whether what I do is something you’d like to try, and anything else you’d like to ask. This can be either a phone call, or via a secure video-chat (you would receive a link which enables you to connect directly from any phone/tablet/computer without the need for a particular app or program).

New Client (90 mins)

^

This is for discussion and assessment of a particular problem/s or issue/s that you want help with. We usually have time to start some treatment as well, but this may not always be the case (particularly for complex, or multiple issues).

Initially we discuss the details of the issue you would like to address.

I will also ask you about other relevant medical history - for example old accidents, surgery, illnesses etc. as well as any health concerns such as heart disease, epilepsy, digestive issues, etc.

This is so that I can gain a good understanding of what your body has been through, your overall health, and can therefore determine what treatment approach may be best, how many sessions to start with, and what we might look for to assess for changes.

We will then discuss what treatment techniques to trial and the recomended number of sessions to start with.  I openly welcome any questions or discussion of concerns during all of this process.

If you are happy to continue and time permitting we will start with some hands-on therapy.

At the end we will have a chance to discuss what you’ve felt during the treatment. You can ask any further questions.

What to wear:  please wear something soft, easy & comfortable to move in.  You will mainly be clothed throughout, we may need to move your clothing a little to check certain areas.

What to bring:  if you take medications please bring list of these.  You are welcome to bring a partner/friend/family member with you.

Treatment Session (50 mins)

^

Once you have had a New Client session you can book Treatment Sessions - aimed at treating your particular issue or problem. Consistency and frequency is generally required to achieve change. The number of sessions would be discussed with you at the New Client appointment & would be based on your individual body, history and circumstances.

Initially we have a short chat to check-in with how you've been doing and any changes you've noticed.

If you’re comfortable to continue we then commence the hands-on therapy.

You remain fully clothed throughout (please wear comfortable clothing), generally laying face-up on a comfortable wide treatment couch, although sometimes you could be laying face-down, on your side, or even sitting (if you are unable to lie down). I use cushions and blankets to keep you comfortable and warm.

We will continue with the techniques discussed on your first visit, although these can be modified or changed depending on how you're responding.

At the end we have a chance for a short chat about the session and any home exercises or advice.

Email:  hello@ninagurling.co.uk

Address:
Upstairs at 46 Market Place, Bolsover, Derbyshire, S44 6PN

(For satnav / Google Maps the post code of the nearest car park works best;  S44 6HD)

Access:
Access is around the back of the row of shops, through a large black metal gate.
The therapy space is upstairs, which unfortunately makes it unsuitable for anyone who can not manage stairs.

Parking:
There are several car parks in Bolsover, all are free.
The closest are two off of Middle Street (postcode S44 6HD).  There are also some spaces to park on the road at nearby High Street and Church Street.
The biggest carpark, with spaces at all times, is the Morrison's carpark; this is only a few minutes walk away.
Any of the other carparks in Bolsover also aren’t far due to my location in the centre of town.
Please allow time for parking and finding the clinic so we have the full session time available for you.
